Like many of you, I can’t wait to go to Disneyland Paris. Especially, after the closure of the past months. Riding Big Thunder Mountain, or Crush’s Coaster. Eating a burger at Annette’s. Just the thought makes me smile. However, even though the resort reopens on June 17th, is this also the best time to visit Disneyland Paris in 2021? Or should you wait a bit more?
What will reopen?
On June 17th, 2021, Disneyland Paris will reopen. This means, both the parks will open, as well as the 4 star hotel Newport Bay Club, and the restaurants and shops in Disney Village. On June 21st, another hotel will reopen – Hotel New York: Art of Marvel.
This is the first Marvel Hotel in the world! With thousands of art pieces created by actual Marvel artist. Even if you are not staying here, you should definitely visit this hotel.
Other hotels that will be reopening this summer are:
- Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne – July 1st
- Davy Crockett Ranch – July 13th
Sequoia Lodge, Hotel Santa Fe, and the Disneyland Hotel will remain closed, with the latter one closed for refurbishment for the forseeable future.
If you have already made a resort reservation for this summer in one of the closed hotels, you will be contacted by Disneyland Paris to either cancel your booking, change your arrival date or pick another accommodation.
Inside the Disneyland Paris parks
The Disneyland Paris parks – Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park – will be open to guests starting June 17th. This means most rides will be open.
Some might work with a virtual queue, which means you will have to reserve a return time to ride a ride. This can be done in the Disneyland Paris app. Here you can also find more information about how the system works.
It’s always a good idea to have the Disneyland Paris app on your phone. You can check wait times, opening hours, and restaurant information in the app. It’s not a necessity, but it makes your day a whole lot easier.
Ok, back to the Disneyland Paris parks.
So, the rides are open, including refurbished Buzz Lightyear Blast and the new Cars Road Trip, which is the refurbished Studio Tram Tour ride.
Shows will unfortunately stay closed for a bit. As well as most character experiences. You will see characters in the park, but you can’t come close to them. No autographs, hugs, but you can take selfies with them, which is also fun.
Restaurants will be open based on the expected crowds in the parks. This mean some of the restaurants will be closed, and crowds can get pretty large at the open restaurants, so make sure you get to the restaurants before lunch or after 3pm, if you want to beat the crowds.
Another way you can beat the crowds is to eat your lunch/diner in Disney Village. During lunch time a few restaurants will be open, and they are way less crowded than the restaurants in the parks. And it only takes about 5 minutes to walk from the parks to Disney Village.
Closed for refurbishment
Even though, the resort has been closed for quite a while, some parts will be under refurbishment during the reopening on June 17th. The most notably is Sleeping Beauty Castle.
If you will be visiting Disneyland Paris in 2021, you won’t be able to see the castle. There will be scrims up to hide the work – and missing parts – and those scrims have the castle printed on them, so you can still take pictures with the castle.
But, I can imagine you’d be disappointed not seeing the actual castle.
Another large part of the resort closed for refurbishment is the Disneyland Hotel. This is the large, pink hotel covering the entrance of the Disneyland Park. It’s also the most luxury hotel on the resort. When coming to Disneyland Paris in 2021, Newport Bay Club or Hotel New York: Art of Marvel, are your best options for a luxurious stay.
Best time to visit Disneyland Paris in 2021
This really depends on your visit. Is this your one and only visit to the resort? I would wait until next year, honestly. The castle is covered, one of the most beautiful hotels is being refurbished, and there are still a lot of restrictions and regulations.
You won’t be able to experience Disneyland Paris to the fullest.
Also, next year it’s the 30th anniversary of the resort and the Disneyland Park. This will be a big celebration with lots of surprises I can imagine.
If you are more like me, Disneyland Paris annual passholder or frequent visitor, I would say go back to visit the resort this year. After the past year, and especially the closures, it’s good to have a bit of magic back into your life.
Last year, we visited Disneyland Paris on opening day, after the first closure, and it was the best visit I have ever had. Not only were there no crowds, yes no waits whatsoever, it was also so much fun. The best thing about Disney theme parks is that everyone, of every age, can have fun, do silly things and just enjoy yourself. Just being able to walk down Main Street, smelling the water in Pirates of the Caribbean, and screaming on the Tower of Terror, brought me some much needed joy.
So yeah, if you are planning on going to Disneyland Paris in 2021, and returning again in the future, I would say go for it. If not, I would postpone until things return to normal a bit more.
