Personally, I think it’s one of the nicest restaurants in Disneyland Paris: Captain Jack’s (formerly Blue Lagoon). Not so much because of the food, but because of the atmosphere. This restaurant is located in an attraction. Really! The visitors of the restaurant are a set piece in the attraction Pirates of the Caribbean. Maybe you have sailed past and wondered what it would be like to eat there.
It’s not a cheap restaurant. Starters start at €17; main courses cost at least €35. There is a special children’s menu; this costs €19 for a simple starter, main and dessert plus a drink. A more elaborate meal costs €33. Although it is not cheap, reservations are always recommended.
The best chance of getting a spot on the day off is before 12:00 for lunch or after 15:00 when most lunch guests have left. If you want a different time, it is best to book far before your arrival. This can be done starting 2 months in advance by calling +33 1 60 30 40 50 (English or French) or through the website of Disneyland Paris. And nowadays also via the Disneyland Paris app. So be sure to update that to the latest version as well.
It is also good to know that the restaurant closes when the attraction is being refurbished. So if Pirates of the Caribbean is closed, the restaurant will also remain closed.
Where can you find Captain Jack’s?
Captain Jack’s can be found next to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Disneyland Park. From the entrance, you’ll have to walk to the other end of the park. The attraction, and restaurant, are located in Adventureland near Fantasyland.
There are several ways to get there. You can go through the castle via Fantasyland and then turn left past Peter Pan. Or you can walk through the entrance to Adventureland and then keep to the right as much as possible towards Pirates of the Caribbean.
The entrance to the restaurant is located next to the exit of the attraction. To get here, you must walk down to the left of the attraction. You will find the restaurant next to the store with pirate gear.
Arrival at the restaurant and best seats
When you arrive at the restaurant, there is usually a line. Even if you have a reservation, you have to wait in this line. When it is your turn, the Cast Member will look up your reservation and welcome you. After this, you will have to be patient until you are brought to your table. This can take a few minutes.
If you do not have a reservation, you may have to wait 20-30 minutes. On very busy days there is also a chance that there are no tables available. The best chance of getting a table is if you go as a couple. They have plenty of 2-person tables filling up the space.
Of course, the best spots are the tables right on the water. But this number is limited, and you have no guarantee that you will get such a table. In addition, they are the noisiest tables. Many visitors of the attraction will start yelling at you (really!) if you sit there in the restaurant.
On the menu
The menu at Captain Jack’s is the Caribbean with lots of fresh fish. Starters include shrimp, crab, or tuna. For vegetarians, there is avocado puree or quinoa salad. There is one meat dish among the entrees: poultry chiquetaille. (Very honestly, I have no idea what that is…)
For the main courses, it is divided 50-50 in terms of meat and fish. The fish served includes wahoo fillet, kingfish fillet, shrimp, or mackerel. With the meat, it is pork, beef or chicken. The best wine choice for each dish is also indicated. For vegetarians, again, there are two options: vegetable curry or sweet potato casserole.
Desserts include exotic fruits, chocolate, or a simple indulgent coffee.
If you have a Plus Meal voucher, you can redeem it for a 3-course meal at Captain Jack’s.
My experience with Captain Jack’s
This restaurant had been at the top of my wish list for years. Whenever I was in Pirates of the Caribbean, I wondered what it would be like to eat there. Actually, we always thought it was too expensive, but we went there to eat because we had a Meal Voucher.
We didn’t have a reservation but were able to go anyway. The friendly cast member gave us a place in the restaurant’s back, far away from the water and the attraction. I found it a bit disappointing.
So I was delighted when a spot near the water became available. When I asked our waiter if we could move, he asked his manager. To our surprise, he said no. After some persuasion, we got a place along the water, but his manager scolded our waiter… It was not that the place was reserved; after 30 minutes, almost all the tables along the water were empty. Everyone was placed in the back. Guess the manager didn’t quite understand that many people come to the restaurant precisely for the experience of “eating in the attraction.”
Except for that strange experience (I still feel guilty that the poor waiter was scolded), it was otherwise really nice to have eaten here. We had a set menu because we used the Meal Voucher. The starter was a vegetarian dish with lots of vegetables. As the main course, I had a Barracuda fillet with vegetables and white sauce. This was a specialty of the chef and tasted very good.
