Disneyland Paris is reopening! On June 17th, we can finally enjoy Space Mountain, It’s a Small World, Crush’s Coaster, and all the amazing rides in the two Disney Parks. Even though things are slowly getting back to normal, in Disneyland Paris, things may not be what you are used to.
If you are visiting Disneyland Paris in the coming months, there are some things you should know. About the expected crowds, how to make reservations, what rides are closed, and more. No worries, in this article I will tell you everything you need to be about the Disneyland Paris reopening!
The 6 things you need to know about the Disneyland Paris reopening
Whether you’re going on June 17th, or directly after, or somewhere during the summer, there are some things you should know about Disneyland Paris. To get a sense of what to expect, and maybe even to prevent disappointment. Not saying that you will be disappointed. However, things are not the same as they were before the closures.
1. Not every Disney Hotel will be open
The first thing you need to know is that not all Disney Hotels will be open this summer. The Disneyland Hotel will remain closed for several months due to an extensive and much-needed renovation.
Other hotels that will stay closed are my favorite, Sequoia Lodge, and the budget hotel Santa Fe. Those are the two Disney hotels that will not reopen during – at least – this summer.
Starting the 17th of June, hotel Newport Bay Club will be the only Disney Hotel welcoming guests. A few days later, the recently renovated and first Marvel hotel in the world, Hotel New York: Art of Marvel, will open to guests and visitors.
Then on July 1st, Hotel Cheyenne will reopen, and almost 2 weeks later, on July 13, the final Disney accommodation will open, and that’s Davy Crockett Ranch.
Do keep in mind that other hotels in the area will reopen and may offer some more budget-friendly options during the first weeks of reopening. Although, I would personally advise you to stay on Disney property just for convenience.
2. There is a new Cars ride
A few years ago, the Studio Tram Tour ride closed to make way for a new Cars-inspired and themed ride. Cars Road Trip, how the new ride is called, will take guests to Radiator Springs.
During the ride, you will encounter some of the much-beloved characters like Mater and Lightning McQueen. And you will also be part of a little spectacle. This is a must-do for all the little – and big, not judging – Cars fans!
3. You won’t be able to see the castle, but Disney has a solution!
Like the Disneyland Hotel, the Sleeping Beauty Castle is also undergoing some much-needed renovation. Everything needs to be shiny and fresh for next year’s 30th anniversary of the park.
So, when you are visiting Disneyland Paris this summer, keep in mind that you won’t be able to see the castle, at least physically, but Disney has come up with a solution. When entering Disneyland Park, Disneyland Paris has put up a huge scrim with an image of the castle printed on it to give you the same magical feeling.
This might sound like a cheap solution, but it’s actually very beautifully done. Not as beautiful as the actual castle, of course, but it’s still a very nice opportunity to take pictures in front of the castle.
4. All rides will be open!
Yes, all the rides will be open, at least for the coming months. How fun is that, right? You can choose whatever ride you want, and visit it as often as you like.
There will be no Fastpass, as Disneyland Paris needs the extra queue space to keep the social distance. However, lower capacity also means lower crowds. So, for now, there is not really a need for Fastpass.
One of the things you should do before you go is to download the Disneyland Paris app. This will give you all the information on wait times and opening hours. With this, you can really optimize your day and maybe, even have a little more fun!
5. You can still take pictures with characters
One of the most beloved parts of any Disneyland Paris day is the character interactions. Unfortunately, they must also keep their social distance. For now, that means no hugging nor autographs.
However, you can still take pictures with them. Like the picture above, there will be photo-ops throughout the park. Usually, there will be some fence or obstacle keeping you from actually going to the characters. But you are still allowed to have your picture taken by someone in your party, or you can take a selfie.
There will many of these types of locations throughout the park, so really keep your eyes open if you want to meet your favorite character!
6. Extra Magic Time is also back!
Extra Magic Time is a free service offered by Disneyland Paris for Disney hotel guests and some annual passport holders. This service allows you to enter the park one hour before the other guests. This usually means you can visit about 1 or 2 rides before the crowds get in.
It’s something I really love to use to ride Crush’s Coaster with a shorter wait, or Big Thunder Mountain or Peter Pan’s Flight. Those are some of the most popular rides in the park, and riding those during Extra Magic Time really saves you, well, a lot of time.
These were the 6 things you need to know about the Disneyland Paris reopening. Wishing you a pleasant stay and let me know what you thought of it!
