Things to see and do in Discoveryland, Disneyland Paris

Discoveryland is one of five themed lands in Disneyland Park. At Discoveryland, that theme is space and the future. And everything in that land is perfectly aligned with that theme, from attractions, to stores and restaurants.

You’ll find Discoveryland at the end of Main Street U.S.A.—the main street from the entrance to the castle. Before the castle, turn right toward HyperSpace Mountain (you can’t miss it). Here you will also see a sign with the latest show times and waiting times in Disneyland Park on it.

Attractions in Discoverland

In Discoveryland at Disneyland Park, there are several attractions. Most of these are suitable for the whole family. Recently, a new attraction was even added to this section of the Park: Mickey’s PhilharMagic

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

In the back of Discoveryland – in the building where Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Captain EO used to be—you’ll find one of Disneyland Paris’ newest attractions. Mickey’s PhilharMagic is a cheerful 3D movie (with some 4D effects) featuring scenes from some well-known Disney movies. As this is a musical show, you will hear the most popular songs, and of course, feel free to sing along.

Star Tours

Are you a Star Wars fan? Then this is the attraction for you. In this 3D simulator, you step aboard a spaceship and fly through famous scenes from the movie.

Of course, you’ll meet familiar characters along the way. A total of 60 different mission combinations are possible. As a result, you rarely have the same ride, so you can continue to enjoy this attraction.

Discoveryland train station

Currently this train station is closed. If it reopens, you will find it near the entrance of Star Tours. Here you can get on board the steam train that takes you around the park. You can exit at the stop at Main Street U.S.A., Frontierland, and in the past also in Fantasyland.

Star Wars HyperSpace Mountain

Over the years, the Space Mountain roller coaster has gone through several transformations. Now, this one has been given a Star Wars theme.

The ride is still the same, only the music and decorations have changed. For those who don’t already know this roller coaster. The ride starts with the trains being loaded into the giant cannon, and you are shot off into space, whilst listening to the opening theme of Star Wars.

After this, you skim past stars and planets at high speed, occasionally going through an inversion.

Les Mystères du Nautilus

This is quite a special attraction. After all, you’ll be visiting the submarine from the movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. There is no ride or moving part. In particular, it is looking around and seeing what a movie submarine looks like inside.

Autopia

In Autopia, children are allowed to drive actual cars. They can operate the gas pedal and steer themselves. It is quite a long course, making it well worth the effort. And it’s not just for kids. Adults can also have a great time in this attraction, as well.

Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast

Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast is a popular attraction for the whole family. You get into your own space vehicle equipped with a laser gun. With these you can shoot at various targets to collect as many points as possible. Only then can you help Buzz Lightyear defeat Emperor Zurge

Orbitron

Want a great view of Disneyland Park and aren’t afraid of heights? Then definitely go into Orbitron. This is actually the adult version of the Dombo attraction in Fantasyland. You sit aboard a rocket and can control how high you fly. There is no minimum height so the whole family can enjoy this attraction.

Restaurants in Discoveryland

Hamburger at Cafe Hyperion

In Discoveryland you will find only one restaurant. It’s a counter service restaurant called Cafe Hyperion. Here they mostly serve hamburgers and some side dishes like fries and salads. You can get drinks and ice creams here as well.

Let me tell you a little secret. This restaurant offers mobile order. Use it! Why? Because lines can get insanely long here, in the past, we waited at least 45 minutes for our food. With mobile order, you order and pay through the Disneyland Paris app, and you can then pick up your food without hardly any wait.

Besides Cafe Hyperion, there are a few food carts in Discoveryland where you can get some snacks and drinks. They usually don’t offer any seating, so make sure you can bring your snack on the go.

Shopping in Discoveryland

There are also a few shops in Discoveryland. The first one you’ll find near the exit of the Buzz Lightyear ride.

Here they sell all sorts of items, from plushies to t-shirts, pins, and toys. They also have a large Marvel selection, so be sure to check this shop out if you are a fan.

The other shop you will find at the exit of the Star Tours ride. Here you can buy mostly Star Wars-inspired souvenirs. And you can even build your own lightsaber here if you’d like to bring home a unique souvenir.

One of the best things to do in Discoveryland

Of course, this is pretty personal, but for me, one of the best things to do in Discoveryland is meeting Darth Vader. You will find this location near the exit of Star Tours.

Even though I know he can’t hurt me, I always get scared when meeting Darth Vader. He is so big and scary looking.

If you like Star Wars of meeting characters, make sure to bring him a visit.
