When you visit the Netherlands, you think of tulips, clogs and cheese. But did you know that we also have a lot of amusement parks in the Netherlands? And that you definitely don’t want to miss these during a visit?
These are the best amusement parks in the Netherlands!
Efteling
Efteling is the most famous amusement park in the Netherlands. I think there are a few Dutch people who have not visited it.
It is a historic amusement park known for its fairy tales. You will find them in the Sprookjesbos (Fairytale Forest), but the attractions also have something magical about them.
Roller coasters such as Baron 1898 and Joris and the Dragon make this the place to be for thrill rides. But you won’t get bored here even if you like less scary attractions. Almost all attractions at Efteling are suitable for the whole family and children of all ages.
You will find Efteling in the south of the Netherlands, about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam.
Walibi Holland
Walibi Holland is also about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam, in the middle of the Netherlands. This amusement park is known for its rollercoasters. It is the ideal outing for families with older children and adults.
Roller coasters you definitely don’t want to miss here are the hybrid roller coaster Untamed, Goliath with its high drop, and Xpress Platform 13, which looks more like a horror movie.
Speaking of Horror, every year in the weeks before Halloween, Walibi Holland hosts Halloween Fright Nights. The park is all about horror in the haunted houses and scare zones during these nights.
The two amusement parks above are by far the biggest ones and an absolute must during your visit. The following amusement parks are a bit smaller in scale and especially suitable if you are in the area on holiday.
Duinrell
Amusement Park Duinrell is located along the coast near The Hague, about 30 minutes from Amsterdam. The park is located in the middle of the dunes and is known for its Tiki Pool, the largest indoor water park in the Benelux.
You will find all kinds of attractions, especially for young children and teenagers, along with a large holiday park.
You have free access to the amusement park from the holiday park, and you can also explore the surrounding area very well. Excursions you can make nearby include going to Scheveningen beach, seeing the historic buildings of The Hague or taking a canal cruise in Leiden, similar to Amsterdam but less touristy.
Slagharen amusement park and Hellendoorn adventure park
These theme parks are also for the whole family. You will find them in the northeast of the Netherlands near the German border.
Both parks have their own water park, and at Amusement Park Slagharen, you can stay overnight at its own holiday park. From here, you can easily travel to the north of the Netherlands or Germany.
The parks are about two hours from Amsterdam and are especially recommended if you stay nearby.
Julianatoren
The last amusement park on the list is Julianatoren. You will find this amusement park in Apeldoorn, about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam. The park is close to the National Park De Veluwe, where many people hike or cycle. This is one of the most beautiful areas in the Netherlands.
When visiting this part of the country, be sure to spend a day at Julianatoren. This theme park is especially for families with young children and is, therefore, less suitable for teenagers and adults. But little ones will definitely enjoy themselves here.
