What to Pack for a Magical January Visit to Disneyland Paris

Are you looking for a magical winter adventure? Disneyland Paris in January is the perfect place for you. Even though the festive decorations may have been taken down, the winter wonderland remains enchanting. However, smart packing is essential to enjoy the adventure to the fullest. Here is a guide to help you pack for your January trip to the happiest place in Europe.

Layer Up for the Weather

January in Paris can be pretty chilly, with temperatures ranging from 1°C to 6°C (34°F to 43°F). It’s important to dress in layers that can be easily added or removed as needed to stay comfortable. You don’t want to wear a bulky coat during a show, but you don’t want to wait outside without it for 30 minutes. Be sure to bring a large backpack to store your items, or consider renting a locker near the entrance of both Disney Parks.

What should I bring when I visit Disneyland Paris in January?

  • Thermal Underwear: To stay warm on the coldest days, starting with a base layer of thermal underwear is best. This layer is thin and lightweight but effectively retains body heat. My personal favourite for this layer is Merino wool tights. They fit perfectly under jeans while keeping you warm and comfortable.
  • Sweaters and Fleece: Wear a warm sweater or fleece over your base layer for necessary warmth without bulk while still looking nice enough for a restaurant.
  • Waterproof Winter Coat: Having a waterproof and windproof coat is essential when visiting Disneyland Paris. Choose one with a hood to shield you from unexpected rain or snow. However, it’s best to avoid bulky coats as the ride vehicles can be pretty snug.
  • Jeans or Warm Trousers: Pair your upper garments with jeans or warm trousers. Consider using water-resistant materials in wet weather, or bring an extra pair of pants just in case. You can find warm – and fashionable – trousers at stores like H&M and Uniqlo.

Footwear: Comfort and Warmth

  • Waterproof Boots: When venturing into the park in potentially icy conditions, selecting a pair of comfortable, waterproof boots with good grip is important. I personally recommend the Terrex boots by Adidas as my favourite. These boots feature a Goretex membrane that can keep your feet dry even on the rainiest days.
  • Thermal Socks: Keep your feet warm by wearing thermal or woollen socks. Bring extra pairs to ensure you always have a dry set. You can even use them (the clean ones) as gloves when you forget to bring them.

Accessories: Protecting Extremities

  • Hats, Gloves, and Scarves: Keeping your extremities warm during cold weather is necessary. To do this, you should always bring a warm hat, a pair of gloves, and a scarf with you. Consider purchasing touchscreen gloves for convenience. Ensure your winter accessories are easy to store in a backpack or handbag during your rides so you will retain them.
  • Ear Muffs: If you’re not a fan of hats, ear muffs can be a fashionable choice to keep your ears warm. Even though some people may give you a funny look, I love my ear muffs because they don’t mess up my hair and keep my ears comfortably warm.

Health and Comfort: Staying Well

  • Lip Balm and Moisturizer: The cold, windy weather can dry your skin and lips. Keep them hydrated with a good moisturizer and lip balm.
  • Hand Warmers: These can be a lifesaver on icy days. They are perfect for waiting in line for rides. Bring a hand warmer you can heat up in the microwave to reheat at restaurants or baby care centres in the Disney Parks.

Packing for Disneyland Paris in January requires some planning, but it’s well worth the effort for the comfortable and enjoyable experience it ensures. With the right gear, you can focus on the magic of Disney, enjoying every ride, show, and character encounter, all while staying cosy and warm in the enchanting winter setting.
